I truly believe that everyone deserves a safe and stable place to call home.
Housing is a basic human right, and every Australian should have access to it. But with the cost of housing going up, it’s becoming a real struggle for many people to buy their own home or even find a reliable rental.
I know the housing crisis needs urgent action.
Since we’ve been in Government, we’ve been working hard to tackle this issue:
We’ve helped 1.1 million Australians by increasing the Commonwealth Rent Assistance by 15% to help with rising rents.
We’ve committed to a National Housing Accord, aiming to build one million new homes in the next five years, in good locations.
We’ve put an extra $2 billion into building more social and affordable rental housing by boosting funding through the National Housing Finance and Investment Corporation.
We’ve doubled the incentives for investors to fund build-to-rent projects, which will help increase housing supply.
We’ve also invested $1.6 billion in the National Housing and Homelessness Plan.
But this is just the beginning. I’ll keep fighting for a fairer housing system for everyone.
